At Five Star Construction, we’ve helped countless individuals and families in the Greenville and Upstate South Carolina area create their dream homes. Sometimes, this included working from fully-designed floor plans purchased by the homeowner-to-be, sometimes we had a basic floor plan to work with that just needed a few customizations, and sometimes our clients were looking for something they just couldn’t find anywhere else.

We’ve been asked before just what it’s going to be like for the homeowner looking to design and build a home from scratch to perfectly match their lifestyle, aesthetics, and needs. We thought we’d take a moment today to answer that question in-depth.

First Off — Nothing’s Ever Really From Scratch

One of the most comforting parts about building a totally-custom house is that you don’t have to do it all yourself. Building a home can be daunting if you don’t have much experience with it — that’s what we’re here for!

Whether you’re looking to base your home’s design off a floor plan you’ve already located, or you want to completely start fresh with a blank piece of paper and all of your ideas, our in-house design team is happy to work with you to achieve the perfect custom home for you. Bring us your ideas and we’ll consult with you while we help to design your home, making sure that every single detail is thought through.

Concerned that the only design you have is just a scribble of thoughts on a napkin? That’s no problem! The design team is totally ready to turn that scribbled vision into a reality. Plus, there’s no extra charge for design work unless you take the design to another construction company for building.

It’s a Collaborative Process That Brings You Together With Experienced Professionals

If you’ve ever watched HGTV, no doubt you’ve seen home designers working closely alongside electricians, general contractors, plumbers, and other local professionals to ensure whatever they need is done on time and done according to local building codes and specifications. Building your own home is much the same.

Using that floor plan you worked out with our design team, we’ll get started on process of putting together your home. When you work with Five Star, you don’t have to know every contractor in town — we have decades of experience and connections in the Greenville area that let us call in dedicated, experienced electricians, plumbers, and other skilled professionals to make sure the job is done right the first time.

The process of designing and then building a totally custom home involves hundreds of decisions, large and small, before your new home is ready for you to move in. We’ll work alongside you to ensure that each and every one of these decisions works with your custom floorplan and your aesthetics — from hardwood vs. carpet flooring to the perfect style of countertop to whether the master bath has a combined shower/tub combo or separate standing shower and soaking tub.

These decisions can become overwhelming when you’re trying to do it all yourself — that’s why we emphasize working together to get all those choices made.

It’s a Great Cure for the Perfectionist

Now, we’re not saying that you’ll need to accept loose nails or shoddy workmanship. That’s not our style, and we work hard to provide the highest quality custom homes available. What we are saying is that a totally custom home is probably going to run into some roadblocks.

Local building codes may conflict with your vision for the hot tub on the deck or interfere with the installation of your foundation. That’s why it’s so important to work with qualified professionals right from the start. We’ve worked alongside local bureaucracy since we began, so we know how to navigate those tricky coding issues and get you the results you need to keep from losing your dream home in reams of red tape.

It Will Make Your Home a True Sanctuary

The end result of a custom-built home is the satisfaction of arriving home every day and seeing a design and build that’s all your own. You’ll walk through a front door you picked out yourself, step through the mudroom with shelving and storage you chose, walk through an entryway with flooring that perfectly matches your dream, and reach up to grab a snack from a cabinet whose color complements the backsplash tiles you fell in love with during the design process.

Five Star Construction would love to work with you on bringing your vision for your dream home to life. For more information on our design process, how we build, and what we can do for you — just give us a call! You can reach us by phone at (864) 303-9143 or contact us online at any time!
