Meet the Team at Five Star Construction in Greenville, SC

When you choose Five Star Construction to build your custom home in Greenville, SC, you’re not just working with a series of faceless middlemen who stand between you and your dream home — you’re working with a family-owned business committed to getting to know you and providing exactly what you need.

Dale McLees

President of Five Star Construction, Inc.

(864) 303-9143

Born and raised in Greenville, Dale is truly at home in Upstate South Carolina. He attended Parker High School and joined the family business at an early age. He loves hunting, camping, and spending time with his wife Janis, 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild (so far).

Dale’s philosophy is a simple one: “If you want something done right, make sure you’re right there in the middle of it, not standing on the sidelines.” He attends Burnsview Baptist Church, and says, “I thank God every day for allowing me to do what I love instead of just doing a job.”

Jimmy McLees

Vice President/Partner of Five Star Construction, Inc.

(864) 303-9145

Jimmy, the youngest of the five “Five Star” brothers, was born and raised in Greenville.

After graduating from Clemson University in 1992 with a degree in Financial Management, Jimmy headed right into the family business. He’s had 26 years of experience in home construction and continues to be passionate about perfecting and building each client’s unique vision for their home.

Having learned just about every trade that goes into home construction, Jimmy brings hands-on experience and knowledge on everything from plumbing to home electrical installation to choosing the right tiles for the bathroom and more. He’s committed to creating a positive experience for the client on every single detail, and no matter what question a client asks, he’ll find the right answer.

When asked about his favorite aspect of his career, Jimmy said, “I love to see the house coming together and reflecting the client’s individual tastes and style. If we do our job right, we’ll be the only builder you consider if you decide to build again.”

Chad McLees

Project Supervisor of Five Star Construction, Inc.

(864) 449-4201

Chad grew up in the building and construction industry, working right alongside his father (Dale McLees) and uncle (Jimmy McLees) at Five Star Construction. He spent his teenage summers on the job, learning the home-building process from start to finish. Upon graduating from Berea High School in 1996, he studied Financial Management at Spartanburg Methodist College and Clemson University. After his time at Clemson, he worked with Builders First Source in Greenville, SC, selling building materials to general contractors in and around the Upstate.

After working in this role for many years, he decided to expand his knowledge into commercial building, and moved into the install sales department at Builders First Source, managing job scheduling and invoicing of subcontractors. He also acted as the liaison between the subcontractor, general contractor, and Builders First Source.

After more than eight happy years with Builders First Source, his career took him back home to Five Star. The time and experience with Builders First Source helped Chad in his new position with Five Star, serving as a superintendent and a liaison between the subcontractors and homeowners, as well as managing framing duties within the company.

In 2001, Chad married his high school sweetheart, Jamie Robertson. He enjoys time with Jamie and his four children (Bryson Cael, Carson Brae, and twins Jackson Dayle and Addison Michelle), including coaching travel baseball and Little League football. Carson was diagnosed with autism in 2010, which led the family to work hard to advocate for Carson and for people with autism nationwide. The twins, meanwhile, keep their parents plenty busy with T-ball and competitive dancing.

Chad has served on the Northwest Little League board as Vice President and currently serves on the board of Travelers Rest Little League as the safety coordinator. Asked what is most important to him in life, Chad lists the following: family, community, children, and service. His philosophy is, “I don’t quit when I’m tired. I quit when the job is done.”
